The Dartmouth Center for Social Impact’s career programs expose students to the social sector and the broader social impact space through experiential learning opportunities and engagement with alumni in these fields. Whether you’re planning to dive into a career in the social sector, or just hoping to learn and grow in partnership with communities, our programs push students to unlock their potential as societal changemakers.
DCSI provides numerous opportunities for students to make an impact while learning to become leaders in the social impact space –
Social Impact Internships: Each term, DCSI funds students to intern at non-profits across the United States and in Cape Town, South Africa through ourDesign Your Own and Cohort Internship programs. Interns receive up to $5,500 to cover living expenses, professional development training, and are also matched with an alumni mentor. These internships are available to students of all disciplines and can encompass a wide variety of professional interests including healthcare, communications, law, public policy, and general interest in incorporating service into your personal and professional journeys.
“I don’t know quite how to put it into words, but I feel like I carry myself differently after [the cohort internship] in Boston. Everyone’s struggles are worth listening to, no moment or conversation is wasted. I feel like I have been taught what compassion without judgment or superiority looks like, and what it really means to meet someone where they are. That is a lesson I hope to keep for the rest of my life.
-Sumant Sharma ‘ 26 interned at Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program

Leadership Development: During the November/December break, DCSI hosts the ImpACT Winterim Leadership Intensive, which funds students to volunteer for local organizations in their home communities (wherever home is) while learning about systems mapping.
For first year students, DCSI’s Foundations in Social Impact program, exposes you to the diverse social impact landscape through workshops and a real world consulting project.
“Foundations was an integral part of my freshman year, and I cherish the experiences that I had attending workshops, connecting with my teammates, and working on our consulting challenge. One of the most valuable things that I have taken away from the program is the realization that there is no “ideal” social impact changemaker. The workshops, coupled with our consulting challenge, gave me the chance to reflect on who I am as an individual, what strengths and weaknesses I have, what skills I am gifted with, and how I can grow in my own unique way.

In the fall term, students can apply to Social Impact Non-profit Consulting (SINC) which supports local nonprofit organizations and social enterprises in crafting meaningful business strategies to maximize their impact in the communities they serve.
“Being a part of SINC is a great opportunity to learn more about consulting while actively engaging with the Upper Valley community. I really enjoyed working with like-minded students, the Center for Social Impact, and various local non-profits.”

Career Programming: Every fall term, DCSI hosts the Breaking the Mold conference which connects students with alumni working in the social impact space. The conference includes networking opportunities for students interested in exploring social impact careers as well as deep dives into specific social issues with alumni experts.
In our All the Difference Podcast, we interview alumni who have leveraged their professional lives for the common good. Learn about how they charted their paths and what they’ve learned along the way.
