The start of the fall season is a great time for reflection. Career design in the arts and creative industries may look different from more conventional paths – opportunities tend to be discovered through curiosity, connection, and experimentation.
Here are a few ways to start designing your path:
1. Start where you are.
Think about your interests (academic and personal), your values, and where you hope to make an impact. What excites you? What do you care about? All of that is valid input for your career design.

2. Brainstorm many ideas.
Don’t limit yourself to what’s “typical” on campus. Imaginative, even far-out ideas can open doors to innovative pathways.

- And we always recommend meeting with a coach to further explore your ideas.
3. Test your ideas out.
Internships are great, but you can also learn by reading, talking to alums (and others), practicing within fields of interests, or doing small projects. These “prototypes” – from informational interviews to volunteering or shadowing – help you gain insight and build momentum.
