Overview
The Source of Hope is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accounting Assistant Emerging Professional to support the organization’s financial operations. This role offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit accounting, bookkeeping, and donation management, while contributing to the financial integrity and mission of The Source of Hope.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and eager to develop professional accounting skills while learning how a nonprofit organization manages its resources to maximize community impact.

Compensation
This is an unpaid Emerging Professional internship offering mentorship and training in nonprofit financial management.
Schedule
- Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Thursday: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM
- Monthly Volunteering Event: Fourth Saturday, 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- Up to 20 hours per week
Emerging Professional Program
The Source of Hope’s Emerging Professional Program helps college students and young adults gain practical, real-world experience in various professional fields. Participants develop leadership and technical skills while receiving mentorship and contributing directly to community impact initiatives.
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling data
- Excellent organization and time-management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
- Basic understanding of accounting principles preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information
- Dependable, proactive, and self-motivated
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Currently enrolled in college, pursuing or interested in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- Prior experience in bookkeeping or administrative work is a plus, but not required
Responsibilities
- Record and track donations, expenses, and receipts
- Assist with data entry, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Maintain organized digital and physical accounting records
- Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial summaries
- Coordinate with leadership to ensure accuracy in donation documentation
- Help prepare materials for audits, grant reports, and board meetings
- Assist with tracking in-kind donations and community contributions
- Participate in Serving Hope events (4th Saturday, 6 AM – 1 PM)
